In this talk, transgender studies scholar Susan Stryker reviews the anglophone and North American contexts in which transgender studies first emerged more than two decades ago, discusses how the field has changed as it has become more global, and looks to the field‘s future prospects as it becomes more academically institutionalized.

Susan Stryker is Associate Professor of Gender and Women‘s Studies and Director of the Institute for LGBT Studies at the University of Arizona (USA). An award-winning filmmaker and writer, she has authored and edited numerous articles, books, anthologies, and journal issues on trans and queer topics for scholarly and popular audiences alike, including "My Words to Victor Frankenstein Above the Village of Chamounix", "Queer Pulp", "Dungeon Intimacies", "Transgender History", "The Trans- gender Studies Reader", and "The Transgender Studies Reader 2".
