(Inter*sex Corporealities. Discourse / Encounters in the Narrative Text)

Buchcover

Intersex has gained more public attention in recent years mainly due to legal decisions in favor of affected persons. The hard struggle for legal and physical self-determination, which is led by intersex people for many years remains, yet mostly hidden. Visible, however, is the figure of the / the "Hermaphrodit_in" in scientific, legal, artistic and sociological discourses.

In this volume discuss scientists of different disciplines with reference to a range of literary texts and films how various discourses meet, contradict or constant over time. Based on novels and plays such as, inter alia, Jeffrey Eugenides' Middlesex, Ulrike Draesner dowry and Nora Mans's two brothers three eyes point to the author*s motifs, narratives and narrative pattern.

Three literary works of Alex Jürgen, author* and activist* , meet the scientific texts as an ironic voice that responds literary conventional thinking patterns.

With contributions by Angelika Baier, Johanna Dorer, Matthias Egger, Michael Groneberg, Urte Helduser, Susanne Hochreiter, Elisabeth Holzleithner, Alex Jürgen, Eveline Kilian, Michaela Koch, Sabine Lang, Skadi Loist, Matthias Marschik, Marina Rauschenbacher, Sigrid Schmitz, Katinka Schweizer and Heinz-Jürgen Voss.
